In the summer of 1989, the BBC1 Presentation Control Room was re-equipped for NICAM digital stereo and during this time, Children’s BBC decamped to sub control, down the corridor, once more. The new location was referred to on screen as The Boiler Room – a fitting term giving the ageing equipment in use in there. Unusually the camera angle used differed – the presenter sat not behind the desk, but stood in front of the monitor stack.
More ideas for extras: A vacuum hose guide is a worthwhile (and sanity-saving) investment that wrangles that unwieldy hose. In a smaller cabinet, wall-mounted wire baskets are a good option for keeping small items at hand.

I got mine built inspired by your design. Thanks for the concept and the tips. I didn’t follow the blueprints, but borrowed some IP our of it. I did include the wheels for easier access and also added a serrated edge. That way I can just rest a tool that I’m currently using (or in case the rack itself is full). I also found a purchased tool hanger hanging around and I attached it to the side. It might be over-engineered, but is fun to see how it’s been evolving. I can clearly see where my thought process changed during the build.
There are many different variations of dust mops, but I am going to focus on 3 common types. Cotton, Synthetic and Microfiber. I have used all of these over the years for dust mopping. Some are better than others, but this should help you know and understand the difference.
BFT 1990 included a phone-in game called Wizz Vid. At 9am, in the opening link, contestants would be invited to call in to play. And following the first programme, the animated epic Belle and Sebastian, a caller would be picked to play the game. The idea was to identify a pop video, which was distorted and obscured, with the contestant having to do so within a time limit, ably assisted by clues from the presenters.
I don’t think I’ve got a dust pan, but I do understand its purpose. But brooms … I guess they might be useful if you’ve got a terrace or a front porch or something similarly half-outdoors. Otherwise, this feels like a test of carriages in the era of Tesla cars. What can I do with a broom that I can’t do with a modern vacuum? They are just moving dirt around, a vacuum seems infinitely more useful to me.
The trailer mate tool rack mounts directly to the trailer mate pro and holds 5 yard tools. The blower hook will mount to the front of the tool rack which ensures the blower tube is easily accessible and secure.
I suppose that depending on the type of vacuums people have, it may not be able to get into as many spaces as a good old-fashioned broom could. Then again, it may, but maybe not without extensions (which, personally, I like to avoid pulling out and using unless I have to). Maybe it doesn’t need extensions… in that case, a broom still has cordlessness going for it. Unless you have a battery-powered vacuum… then I guess there’s really nothing a broom can do that that a vacuum can’t. I think it’s mostly just preference, really.
Construction works of some sort appeared to be taking place in the Broom Cupboard towards the end of 1988 and on their completion, a new addition was revealed – a window. This was simply a wooden frame into which viewers’ pictures (four sides of A4 stuck together would produce paper in the desired size) could be put, thus creating a different view each week.
I also recall not too long ago when I saw the ‘handicapped’ washroom at a local hospital being used as a broom closet and at another time, the washroom for the disabled locked, so no-one could use it.
HI! This is an amazing list! Thank you! A couple questions: I didn’t see them the competition, but were Norwex or eCloth dry/dusting mops part of the test? My biggest frustration with sweeping large areas inside, is that I feel like small brooms take a long, long time to cover the space and get the job done. Do you think with the effectiveness of the top recommendations, that it would go faster? Or would your recommend a wider broom?
The $9 Rubbermaid Comfort Grip Duster and Dustpan Set is the best seller on Amazon, and it’s almost identical to the Professional Plus. The Comfort Grip has a shorter lip that makes it harder to get dust into the pan, its ridge is shallower, and it’s not as wide, so the Professional Plus is the better of the two.
The brush’s sweeping surface is about 5.5 inches wide. We would have liked to see a wider brush to speed up the cleaning process, but the Up & Up’s brush was better at sweeping than the wider brushes we tested. It was the only brush we tested with flagged bristles for capturing dust, and its medium-stiffness bristles were the best at getting debris into the dustpan. Other brushes had floppy, unflagged bristles that flung dust into the air and left lots of residue on the floor.

Finely detailed custom cabinets framing a window seat run from floor to ceiling to create plentiful storage; the cabinets also house a television set positioned on a motorized arm that draws back to move the screen into the cabinet’s recesses.
The packaging and info say the width is 37 inches. I bought it to put in a enclosed cabinet that is 37.25 wide. However, the product is actually 38 wide and therefore doesn’t fit. I don’t see how a company like Rubbermaid can make such a mistake.

Home centers and hardware stores sell a wide variety of products for storing almost anything. You can also install wire rack shelving or special wire baskets on doubleslot shelf standards. You can usually mix shelf brackets and accessories from different manufacturers—but check the fit, if possible, before buying. Shelf standards, however, are not interchangeable, as slots and screw holes don’t always line up.
