The Casabella Wayclean Wide Angle Broom is the best at sweeping, the most comfortable to hold, and the least expensive broom we tested, and the OXO Good Grips Clip-On Dustpan is the best to pair with it. To round out your cleaning kit, we recommend the O-Cedar Dual-Action Microfiber Dust Mop. Its double-sided head was the most effective at capturing dust and could clean the longest before needing to be washed.
The $10 OXO Good Grips Dustpan and Brush Set is a whisk-style brush set with very soft bristles that fling particles. The dustpan is similar to our pick, with that excellent contoured lip—but it is narrower and lacks the comfortable handle, and it’s paired with a terrible brush that isn’t worth the extra $4. According to our survey, most people don’t want a whisk brush, and this set wasn’t good enough to change our minds.

It was then that Becker met Ms Ermakova. After five minutes of small talk he followed her into the darkest corner of the restaurant – which turned out to be the broom cupboard – and got down to business.

The handle/pole is smooth and well constructed out of metal. The mop itself is not the round shaped mop of an older O-Cedar mop I used for years and like very much. The rectangle shape fits on a flimsy plastic bendable flat connection that holds the mop in place. Not sure how long it will last after repeatedly removing the mop to shake it out.
Harper brooms: made in the USA, very soft, densely packed, flagged bristles, wide head. Takes the place of a dust mop for me. Available at independent hardware stores like Ace, Do It Best, True Value, etc. More expensive but last a long time and have replaceable, wooden heads. Quality and performance, the best brooms I’ve used.
Even a great broom needs a dust mop to help finish the job, and the $19 O-Cedar Dual-Action Microfiber Flip Mop is the best we tested. It held more dirt than any other dust mop in our test, by picking up the most debris—this was the only one that could grab a full tablespoon of flour—and by cleaning the most surface area before requiring a wash. Its large, double-sided head is big enough to work quickly, yet nimble enough to get dust from corners, with a 17.5- by 5.5-inch footprint that cleans as much area as six Swiffer sheets (and more effectively, too) between each wash. The chenille microfiber surface is the ideal blend of dust mop materials, and it’s held up well over months of cleaning and laundering. After about 100 washings, the head will need replacement, and the O-Cedar’s $7 to $10 refills are cheaper and better than the competition.
Half a dozen visitors are being given a tour of the printing museum Saturday by director Mark Barbour while Soinski is in his dressing room – a broom closet in the back – getting ready for the big finale: a personal visit from Ben Franklin in his colonial print shop.
[…] of time, a natural fiber pad works pretty well. It is important to note that you should always dust mop the floor after burnishing, especially if you have a lot of black scuff marks. The fine, dry debris that is […]
The $24 Libman Freedom Floor Duster has a good chenille cloth, but its head is about the size of a Swiffer, so it can’t pick up as much dust as the O-Cedar. And the comb that comes with the Freedom Floor Duster is silly.
As well as over-strenuous standards, housebuilding is now being held back by the absurd Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), whereby buyers of new homes bear the brunt of the cost of new roads, schools and playgrounds, even though these facilities are used just as much by the occupants of existing housing. In parts of Hammersmith buyers of new homes must pay £400 in CIL per square metre. That’s a mighty expensive doormat.

I’m very disappointed with this. The reviews cannot be real. Very flimsy and within a couple of days the plastic was bending, the whole thing was leaning and looks like it is going to topple over. Notice I have about 25 items on it but many are light brooms, poles, etc. I would return if still had packaging.
Mason jars have a different type of lid – sort of a plate and a ring. If paint is left in there for ages and gets onto the plate, you can still pop it off and replace the plate – or both the plate and ring. If paint gets stuck to a baby jar lid, you’ll have a hard time twisting off the lid. Or ……. you could just try not to get any paint on any of the lids until you try to open the jar. Hope that helps.
A tower rack in the corner gives you the perfect storage solution for brooms and other long handled items. Many of these are on wheels so you can easily roll them wherever you need them or get a stationary one to keep in the corner for permanent storage. I need a piece of furniture for the brooms, mops, buckets and possibly some cleaning products. I’d like something either quirky (e.g. industrial) or in keeping with kitchen (kind of shaker in Victorian house) but not matchy matchy. Any ideas anyone?
When using a hole saw, drill just until the pilot bit comes through the other side. Then flip the board, put the pilot bit in the pilot hole, and finish the cut. You’ll get a cleaner cut, and the waste piece won’t get stuck in the hole saw.

When hanging long handled tools—like brooms, rakes, and shovels—in your shop or shed, you can buy brackets made for that purpose, but they can be expensive. A cheaper option is to use plastic pipe hangers available at building supply stores that are made to support PVC pipe.
Theme days again populated this season of But First This – there was a day themed around chocolate, one around noses (Siobhan taking offence, because she was convinced everyone thought she had massive nostrils) and so on. There was also a canine counterpart for the four presenters, Woof The Dog, whose training was chronicled in various inserts. And Siobhan created a comic fashion expert by the name of Phidelma Gusset (with a silent t). Phidelma would pop up periodically to relay her thoughts on the latest fashion trends – the return of the ra-ra dress, for example!

There was an unexpected appearance for the Broom Cupboard on 16 October 1987 when, as the massive great storm had lashed the South East of England, Television Centre was left without power in all areas except Presentation, which was powered by a standby generator. Newsreader Nicholas Witchell was rushed into the yellow Broom Cupboard, hastily stripped of Children’s BBC identity, to introduce a skeleton news service! Extracts of this broadcast have been added to YouTube in recent months – click the picture opposite to see them.
Center the rack across the brackets, adjusting if necessary to prevent a slot from falling over a bracket. Mark for screw holes. Take the rack down to pre-drill and then use a screwdriver to secure it to the bracket with 5/8-in. screws.
How: Houzz user Kara Gilbert sent in this photo of her organized broom closet with a shoe rack on the back of the door — perfect when you need to make a closet work as hard as possible. The shoe rack holds first-aid supplies and toiletries in labeled pouches, while bins on open shelving provide ample storage. A small wall-mounted holder keeps cleaning tools out of the way, and a vacuum with a small footprint sits on the floor.
