Simply Organized: Organizing the Cleaning Closet Organizing the Cleaning Closet: I really like the hook rack idea to hang up the little dusters, brushes, brooms, etc. Cheaper than all those command strips and dealing with them not holding up.

Installed slatwall panels to a height of 6 feet around the perimeter of the garage which provides a lot of flexibility for future storage and organization. A hose reel was installed in the back left corner with a couple of shelves. Beside the central vac are a couple of wire baskets with some mesh baskets below.

Cabinets are really not that difficult to install yourself and you can save a virtual fortune by doing so. You can purchase cabinets already built and then just hang them on the walls yourself. The cabinets are great for storing things and keeping the garage neat and tidy and depending on the size and number of cabinets that you get, you may be able to store everything away so that your garage always looks completely clean. Don’t throw away any screw-top jars you use in the kitchen. Once you’ve collected a few jars, glue or screw their lids to the underside of an existing shelf in your shed using a strong adhesive. You can then fill the jars with your gardening essentials and screw them onto the lids. Plastic jars are ideal because they won’t shatter if accidentally dropped.

Installation is tool-less, easy and quick. Its broad, solid base provides optimal stability meaning it will not tip over even when large tools are stored on it. The broom holder has integrated holes at its top to let you anchor the tool rack to the wall. Although it can carry up to 30 tools, at times the weight may tip it over.

The Vax S6S Home Pro Compact boasts the longest cleaning session of all our favourite steam machines – a mammoth 40 minutes. The downside is that you have to wait 12 minutes for the tank to heat up, but we’re happy to stay patient for unrivalled steam time.

Getting all those tools organized is essential to an easy ebb and flow of your summer gardening days. It’s great to have a little potting station and work area to stash away pots, soil, forks, shovels, buckets and bags. Putting everything in it’s place at the end of the day and keeping track of all your pots and shovels is easier when everything has a home.

I bought this today at my local Walmart on Mobile Hwy in Pensacola FL. Read the instructions carefully. Assembling the mop was easy, putting the 2 piece handle together was a little sticky but I went slow and used my body weight to slowly get it to move. The rest of it was simple. The mop comes with a measuring cup and if you fill to the end of the frosted plastic that’s the exact amount it holds. Plug it in and wait 30 seconds then pump it a few time to prime it before cleaning. Most people forget this step and it’s very important. You need to do this every time you use it. I pumped mine about 10 times. As you mop you will continue to pump the mop with the up and down motion and this produces the steam. I had mopped yesterday so I didn’t really think it would be very dirty but was I wrong. My floors felt good to the touch. Very smooth. I was going to buy another mop but decided to splurge on this one and am so happy I did. What a great tool. It does take more time than a conventional mop but the cleaning difference in the two is remarkable. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

The S6S comes with three extension tubes, a concentration nozzle, two plastic brushes, metal brush, window squeegee, upholstery tool, detail nozzle and scraper. There’s also a detergent tank built into the handle.

This all depends on how much you want to spend. Some manufacturers produce steam mops that have their own “holding” mat. This means you don’t have to wait for it to cool down and it protects the surface you store it on. Of course, you are dealing with steam which is very hot so I would advise that you read the manual carefully before using your chosen steam mop. They’re also generally less bulky than a traditional mop, and won’t take up much space in your laundry room. Plus, you have the added benefit of being able to do away with that bucket!

A sturdy cabinet can be ideal for tucking tools, bags of soil, and other supplies out of sight. If you have children, choose a style with lockable doors to secure dangerous items, such as sharp tools, weed killer, and insecticide.

You can find vintage garden gear, such as these outdoor spigot handles and spring clips, at flea markets, antiques stores, and online for as little as $1 each. Use them to organize your garden gear with this fun and functional tool rack made from old wood molding, flea-market spring clips, and brightly colored outdoor spigot handles (The Old Time Junk Shop; etsy.com). All you need is a free morning, the tools in a basic kit, and a little creativity and elbow grease. To mount each handle, use a ¼-inch galvanized lag screw threaded with a corresponding nylon spacer, both available at hardware stores.

You might expect a steam mop to be more convenient than an ordinary squeeze mop, with no squeegee to squeeze and no pail of water to deal with. You might also expect the steam to loosen dried food spills effectively, and perhaps even sanitize floors and other surfaces. But not all of these expectations matched the reality when we last tested these products.

Can a gardener have too many trowels? Trowels are hand shovels. Useful tools for those down on your hands and knees digging and planting tasks that require a greater degree of precision than a shovel or spade. They come in handy for planting bulbs, transplanting seedlings, turning over soil, and weeding small areas between plants. Trowel blades come in several widths. Narrow blades work well for digging in hard-packed soil, while wide blades have the capacity to move more dirt quickly. A good trowel will have a solid steel blade and a handle with a comfortable grip.

Pegboard: Available in metal or wood, pegboard is a handy way to keep clutter off the garage floor. You can use pegboard as the wall itself, or put it on top of existing drywall with a furring strip. This will ensure that the pegboard has enough space behind it for hooks to hang. Plan out exactly what you want to hang, then outline each item with a permanent market once it’s in place so you’ll know where to put it back.

A broom holder is a simple tool that does not require you to hire a professional to install for you. It would be very expensive to do so. The best broom holders are the ones that are easy to install. It should easy to figure out how to mount them even without assistance. However, you should look for one that comes with installation manual as well as the necessary items such as screws and wall anchors.

After a day of pulling out a bucket, tossing in cleaner, mopping the floors and waiting forever for them to dry, I decided to try a steam mop. Truthfully, this was the least expensive one at WM, but I have a Shark vacuum that I love, so I figured for the price, it was worth a try. We have 30 year old vinyl tile floors and this does a great job on them! It gets up stuff that has been there for years. It dries in almost no time and because I have to pump the handle to get the steam out, I get a decent workout to go with the clean floors. But I don’t have to bend hardly at all – I’m tall and the handle is long enough for me. It’s low profile slips it under the stove as well, so it cleans a bit in an area that almost never gets cleaned. It takes tap water, has a long cord and the pads velcro on and off and go into the washing machine and dryer. Plus no chemicals involved at all. This is worth every penny and I’m mopping far more often than I did before.

These general-purpose hooks can secure the most unwieldy tools without consuming too much coveted wall space. Mount hooks to a channeled panel with enough room in between to avoid creating clutter or knocking handles.

The Bissell PowerFresh 1940 is very easy to use, say owners — just fill, plug it in, wait about 30 seconds, and start mopping. And testing at YourBestDigs.com found that it does heat up that quickly. Some owners would rather see a dedicated power switch rather than plugging in and unplugging the mop to turn it on and off, though. The PowerFresh’s 15-ounce water tank produces about 15 minutes of steam on the high setting, and up to 30 minutes on lower settings. YourBestDigs.com found that 20 minutes was about average.

Magnetic knife holders sold at kitchen-supply stores can be mounted to the wall with a few screws and will keep paintbrush bristles from being squashed. Hang the brushes bristle end down for proper drying and to minimize the amount of dust that collects between the bristles. You can also store other metal tools and utensils this way.

A steam mop does the hard work for you. You don’t have to get down on your hands and knees to scrub. You don’t have to lug around or empty heavy buckets of dirty water, either, making it a good option if you have joint issues or pain.

Vitally, it offers plenty of control – you can steam, vacuum, or do both at the same time. Vacuuming and steaming simultaneously is a great time saver, particularly if you have lots of hard floors. The cleaning results in our tests were excellent, and fragrance discs leave the room smelling great, too.
