There are several mechanisms by which indexable carbide inserts can be mounted to a lathe tool holder. The screwdown locking style tool holder secures the insert with a countersunk screw through the hole of the insert and threaded into the tool holder pocket. Screwdown locking tool holders are primarily for positive style inserts. The clamp locking style tool holder secures an insert using a clamp that squeezes the insert in the pocket. The clamp is fastened to the tool holder with a machine screw. Clamp locking tool holders are primarily for TPG inserts. The multilock style tool holder is a combination of the screwdown style and clamp locking style. The insert is held in the pocket with both a lock pin screw through its cylindrical hole and a clamp squeezing its face. Multilock tool holders are primarily for negative style inserts. The wedge lock clamping style tool holder secures the insert with a specialized clamp that goes through the hole of the insert. The clamp is fastened to the tool holder with a machine screw. The advantage of the wedge lock clamping style is that it only takes a single action to index the insert, whereas the multilock style requires the loosening of both the lock pin and the clamp. This minimizes downtime. Wedge lock clamping tool holders are primarily for negative style inserts.

The local police in Ferguson, Missouri have used questionable tactics to quell riots in the wake of a cop shooting a black unarmed 18-year-old, from arresting journalists to using tear gas on peaceful protesters to bringing barking police dogs into the streets.

Using dogs on a crowd in a civil disturbance has been a no-no in policing since Selma, Alabama, former police chief Chuck Drago told Business Insider, referring to bloody civil rights protests in 1965. It doesn’t look good. It’s a PR nightmare if nothing else, and it just stirs people up.

Tensions between Ferguson cops and Ferguson residents actually started long the shooting death last weekend of Michael Brown days before he was supposed to start college. The city is 67% black, but only three out of 53 police officers in the city are African-American, The New York Times notes. There’s evidence of racial profiling in the city, as The Times notes that blacks account for 87% of traffic stops in Ferguson.

It started years before this … The shooting is just the spark that ignites it, said Drago, who served as a senior law enforcement adviser to former Florida governor Charlie Crist after his retirement from the police force.

But even since the shooting, the police department appears to have made a bad situation worse.

The public has questioned the police’s versions of the shooting. While police say Brown assaulted the officer who shot him, an eye witness said Brown was shot in the back and repeatedly said he didn’t have a gun.

The lack of transparency in the investigation has also added to the mistrust residents feel towards their police officers, as police have refused to name the officer who shot Brown.

When the police department tightens and batters down the hatches, [it] makes things so much worse, Drago said, adding that it should not be a surprise when such a tense community rises up.

“It’s a textbook example of how not to handle the situation,” St. Louis City Councilman Antonio French told The New York Times, referring to the general police response in the aftermath of the shooting. “Ferguson has a white government and a white mayor but a large black population. This situation has brought out whatever rifts were between that minority community and the Ferguson government.”

Cops have also given the impression they’re trying to hush things up by tear gassing a TV crew and arresting journalists for the Washington Post and the Huffington Post.

It sends a message that you’re trying to cover things …
Con:This cabinet is quite hard to assemble, taking two people about n hour to do so. It includes only two shelves, although it has space for several more. Pro: Once assembled, it looks fine, and is a good size for a small kitchen. It seems sturdy, and objects can be stacked on top. The door can be attached on either side, and fits well. It stays open or closed, as needed. With the addition of 2 or 3 more shelves, it will be extremely useful for storng kitchen supplies..
It’s a sad day for video games as Ralph Baer, the “father of video games,” has died at the age of 92.

He was a prolific inventor who earned more than 150 patents in his life, but his most famous work was creating a machine known as the Brown Box. It was later released in 1972 as the Magnavox Odyssey, the first home video game console. Gamasutra confirmed Baer’s passing.

It’s a reminder for us all that the video game industry is still pretty young, and many of its pioneers are still alive. But Baer’s passing is also a reminder that it’s good to preserve the industry’s history and honor its professionals while they’re still alive.

Baer earned the National Medal of Technology — the nation’s highest honor for inventors — from President George W. Bush in 2006 for Baer’s work in starting the video game industry. He invented toys such as the light gun, a peripheral for video game consoles. He also created the interactive memory game, Simon.

He was born in Germany in 1922, but had to flee the Nazis. His family fled two months before the Kristallnacht, or Night of Broken Glass, when the Nazis attacked Jewish businesses and homes. His family moved to Holland and later to the U.S.

I had given up all hope on finding an honest mechanic until I met these guys last week.  I’m tired of the salesman approach when it comes to finding out what’s wrong with your car and what it will need.  I read some reviews online prior to bringing my car in and heard they were very honest.  I had to get my car inspected and they found something major that needed fixing.  They gave me an estimate which was over $800 and wound up getting the work done along with a bunch other things for $773.  I made sure to tell them that I really appreciated their honestly and quality work.

It’s too early to tell what long-term effects Apple’s new, bigger-screened iPhones—the 6 and the monster-sized 6 Plus—will have on its shaky iPad tablet business. But according to Pocket, the popular service for saving web articles to read later on your phone, the new iPhones are already taking screen time away from iPads.

Specifically, Pocket found:

iPhone 6 and 6 Plus owners are reading more on their phones. “Those with the 6 now open 33% more articles and videos inside Pocket than they did with a 5/5S, and those with the 6 Plus open 65% more items than they did with a smaller phone,” Pocket says.•
The larger phones are cannibalizing iPad reading share.
Previously, iPhone 5 and 5S users opened about 55% of their Pocket articles on their phone, versus about 45% on a tablet. With the iPhone 6, that changed to 72% of activity on phones. And with the iPhone 6 Plus, it’s about 80%—the same ratio seen among Pocket’s Android population.•
But the iPad is still popular at night.
“Regardless of which iPhone they have, users still reach for their iPads around 9pm for some late-night, bedtime reading,” Pocket says.

(See Pocket’s blog for some more interesting observations.)

A few caveats: First, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are brand new, so it’s possible this reflects new-gadget lust more than the long-term trend line. Second, this is one company measuring a subset of its users performing specific activities—primarily reading articles and also watching saved videos. It’s hardly representative of the entire ecosystem. And third, Apple CEO Tim Cook has stated clearly that he’s fine with cannibalizing his own products. He will be especially glad to do so with the iPhone, which is significantly more profitable than the iPad.
