Hardwood flooring has become of the most popular residential flooring options in the past 15 years, mainly due to it’s durability and that it can be cleaned easily and quickly. It can also add considerable value as well as beauty to a home. However, if it’s not properly taken care of, in several years you will either need to have it refinished or even replaced, both at a significant cost. Taking proper care of your hardwood floors is even more important when you have expensive flooring such as maple, mahogany and cherry.  While there are many popular hardwood cleaning options and products on the market, in most cases a quality broom made for hardwood floors is the best option for daily floor sweeping & cleaning. While they don’t deep clean hardwood, they are gentle on the finish and will sweep away most of the dirt, dust and other solid materials left behind from normal foot traffic.

This one also can’t move dry leaves as efficiently as the push brooms, because of its small 12-inch head—this is a broom you sweep in a sideways motion, not one that you push along. It weighs just two pounds, but it’s also only 57” long overall, which may make it awkward for tall sweepers. But that small size means it’s not too hard just to pick the broom up and rotate it when necessary. You’ll need to rotate it often—with such stiff bristles, Vorce said that it’s harder to change direction when you’re pushing it than it is with other, more flexible brooms.

We were on the hunt for the perfect dustpan, too. A great dustpan needs a wide enough mouth to match your broom’s head, and a rubber lip on the front edge of the dustpan is crucial. This rubber lip sits flush with the floor and creates a ramp up into the dustpan, which helps you sweep stuff into the dustpan with fewer strokes, instead of having to sweep, scoot the dustpan back, sweep, scoot, sweep … and so on. A good dustpan also needs a ridge on the inside to keep debris inside, or everything swept in can slide right back out. It also needs a decent capacity; you don’t want a shallow dustpan that can’t handle a half cup of spilled rice.

Bulb planters are made to dig precise holes for bulbs. Some are marked in inch gradients for exact hole depth. The digging tube grabs and removes soil to allow the bulb to be planted. A long-handled version allows extra pressure from the foot.

Have you considered evaluating the Casabella neon broom? It appears to be very similar but the handle is slightly different – would be curious to hear your take, since it’s much easier and cheaper to come by.

While brooms nowadays all work the same way and use pretty much the same materials, the dustpan is quite another matter. Depending on the manufacturer it can be larger, allowing you for more sweeping before having to empty it. It can also come with nifty features such as teeth that can remove dirt and dust from broom bristles.

The bristles are strong and have split tips to make it easier to gather dust and small particles of dirt. They do not seem like they are likely to fray, and the broom head is surrounded by a rubber bumper that prevents damage occurring when cleaning near walls.

And while it might sound ironic after mentioning the potential longevity of a broom, one should also not overlook how readily they can be disposed of and replaced. As mentioned, even the most expensive broom and dustpan set you are likely to purchase will cost only thirty or forty dollars at most; you can get several years of use out of the set and then dispose of and replace it.

The best dustpan to pair with it is the $6 OXO Good Grips Clip-On Dustpan. Its unique red rubber lip tapers to a fine edge and curves up the sides of the dustpan, making it by far the most capable tool for getting dust off the floor—without needing to be scooted back constantly as you sweep. It worked better than the other dustpans when paired with the Casabella broom, with a 10.5-inch opening wide enough for the broom head and a handle that clips securely to the broom handle. A taller-than-average 1.3-centimeter ridge keeps detritus inside the pan, and its rubbery handle was the most comfortable of any dustpan we tested.

Anyone in Canada find anything similar here? Bed, Bath & Beyond sells Casabella but not this broom. O’Cedar is supposed to be the same as Vileda but they don’t seem to carry a dust mop like this. Help!

In the comments you will see that a representative of Tekton responded to my issues in my review and offered a replacement for the failed units without any paperwork or anything. All I did was to email her and in a few days I had the replacements. The shipping alone had to cost more than the product retail. Yes the product is weak, but the manufacturer really stepped up to customer support in a way seldom found today!

Everyone is cutting back: Many restaurants are limiting guests to one glass of water; using water from ice buckets to mop floors; and adding aerators to water taps to literally add air and limit water flow.

On October 14, 2008, M.O.P. filed suit in a New York Federal Court against the WWE and John Cena. The group claims that Cena and the WWE stole parts of their song Ante Up for Cena’s theme song The Time is Now. The theme song is also featured as the first track on Cena’s album You Can’t See Me. M.O.P. is seeking the destruction of the song and asking for $150,000 in damages. The lawsuit has since been dropped, it is unknown if a settlement was reached outside of court.[4]

I have a Williams Sonomoa broom that is terrific for undercupboards. My cabinets are painted and it is rounded with rounded protected ends. It was not inexpensive, but I am really pleased with it. I have a central vac, but this works better on the hardwood floors. Can never believe how much dust I sweep up, even with daily cleaning and only 2 of us in the home.

Now that you know how to take care of your cleaning tools, how do you know when it’s time to replace them with new ones? Both cleaning experts told us that a broom’s condition is visual: “If it looks bad, it is bad.” When the bristles are broken, bent, or falling out and the broom is more of a hindrance than a help, it’s time to get a new one. However, if the ends of the bristles are frayed somewhat uniformly, don’t panic. Those are called flagged bristles, and are frayed intentionally to make the broom better at trapping dust. A great, well-cared for broom should last several years of weekly use.

Cleaning Tip: Use your Wonder Mop to clean ceilings. I use mine regularly to clean mold and mildew from my bathroom ceiling. It is easy with the long handle. It is light weight, and wringing is a snap. No more messy hands or dry skin from bleach water.

Dust mop cloths come in a few common styles: cut end, looped end, and chenille. Cut ends are prone to fraying, and looped ends are a little better at grabbing dust, but our tests found that chenille microfiber heads—the kind that look like a colorful forest of little worms—are the most effective because their nubs get into cracks and corners better. Chenille heads also hold more dust, which means they can clean more before being washed.

Mop no more than once a week. If your floors get particularly dirty thanks to children, pets, or lots of foot traffic, you may need to mop them every week. However, for most houses, try to mop your hardwood floors around twice a month.[1]
