The Swiffer Sweeper is not a broom substitute; it is a dust mop with disposable refills. You shouldn’t use it to sweep up Cheerios or broken glass, but to capture dust and other remnants left behind after you’ve swept with a broom.
Our Small Yard Tool Rack can hold up to 15 tools and is a great space saver in any garage, shed, barn, or greenhouse. With this small tool rack, you’ll no longer waste time searching for the tools you need because they will all be located in one convenient location.
What really helped was when I learned that you can slide the grip further up the shaft to a more natural gripping position. It’s still a little shorter than I’d find ideal, so my hands are a bit close together for super efficient sweeping, but it hasn’t proved to be a major problem.
For more forested properties, consider Bear Cat’s heavy-duty SC2206. Instead of hauling loads of brush, leaves, and limbs to the curb and paying extra for yard refuse pick-up, have this easy-to-start machine eat through it all for you. Then, add the stuff to your compost heap or use it as mulch. This wheeled, lightweight model features a 206cc Briggs & Stratton engine and a wide handle, making it easy for one person to move by hand. Six serrated and staggered reversible shredder knives ensure efficient wood processing.
Personally, I like to save my vacuum for carpets/rugs, and I use a for hard surfaces. I start with the broom+dustpan to sweep up the “big chunkies” like dust-bunnies and the like, which tend to hind under chairs or tables, or underneath counters which overhang the floor, and then I follow up with the dustmop to collect finer particles in the middle of the floor and in areas with more regular foot-traffic. It’s just faster for me to be able to pull those tools out and go to town than it is to drag out the vacuum and wrestle with the extensions+cord to do the same job.

Through proper use of soft brooms for hardwoods, you keep your floors looking great and lasting for decades. For daily cleaning there’s no need to apply expensive and harsh chemicals. Over time, chemicals will harm your floors finish and potentially the health of your family. Instead, make use of the conventional brooms and sweep away germs, dirt, bacteria and dust.
Both the dustpan and brush have matching holes to hang the set when it’s not in use, but they’re a little narrow and might not hang on thicker hooks. Without the brush, the Target dustpan can clip to our recommended broom, but it doesn’t fit as securely as the OXO Good Grips Clip-On dustpan and can warp the Casabella’s bristles.
Keep the bristles from getting crushed. It’s very easy to bend any kind of broom bristles out of shape if there’s any weight on them, as I remembered slightly too late for my Quickie sample. Do not let your broom sit on its bristles. Hang the broom by its handle, or lean it so that the bristles aren’t touching anything.
This yard tool rack will hold 10 of your finest tools from brooms, rakes, shovels, and garden hoses. This rack will hold up to 200 pounds and is made with industrial steel with a powder coated finish to prevent rust and give it a great look.
When a standard broom gets coated with dirt that remains over time, you will probably just throw it away. After all, how easy is it to make something clean while using a dirty tool. You could try to rinse out the bristles, but you probably will not have very much luck if you do so. Beyond that, at the point that nylon bristles appear dirty, they are usually all bent out of shape as well. No amount of rinsing will make them straight again, so even if you do have luck removing some, or all, of the caked on debris, you still might not have anything useful to clean with. This broom is different. Because the head is a solid piece of molded rubber, it will not hold or collect as much yucky stuff in the first place, but when it does, you will be able to rinse it off with ease. You can use soap and water if necessary, and you can even take it off the handle and place it in your dishwasher for the ultimate in cleaning convenience. Wash it over and over to keep it as clean as you want. No amount of use, or trips through the dishwasher will make the rubber lose shape, so it will be sparkling clean and ready to go each and every time you use it.
With the cover on, the frame measures just under an inch tall, so it will fit under most raised furniture to clean out dust bunnies lurking underneath. (The handle and steering mechanism can also lay completely flat, and are shorter than the frame with the cover on.) Our pick is easy to steer, not loose and rattly or stiff and challenging to turn. It stands about 50 inches tall, and the plastic-coated steel handle doesn’t extend like others we tested. That’s a little short, but not so short that it is uncomfortable to use.
Our pick is well-designed, great at sweeping, and comfortable to use. (It’s pretty cute too, not that anyone is buying a broom for its dashing good looks.) On top of all that, it’s the least expensive broom we tested—only $10, and that’s cheaper even than the other brooms that also lacked a dustpan. Our survey found that most people are willing to pay up to $20 for a great broom. The Casabella costs only half that, and it’s the best of the bunch.
Angler makes it way into our list once more with another absolute delight of a broom set. This one is also mostly made out of recycled plastic bottles and is one of the most eco-friendly choices of brooms out there.

Brooms are a slow-moving technology. They have been effectively the same—a handle with bristles for sweeping—for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. According to this fascinating broom history by J. Bryan Lowder, synthetic fibers were first invented in the 1940s, and started appearing in brooms in the 1950s and ’60s. We don’t see any crazy new developments like that on the horizon, so you shouldn’t worry about your broom becoming obsolete.

For that same price, around $32, I can get about four years of life out of our reusable dust mop pick. Electricity and water prices vary, as does washer efficiency, but here’s how I calculated my costs: In New York City, a single warm load of laundry costs about 30 cents (7 cents for electricity, 5 cents for water, and 18 cents for our recommended detergent). Washing bi-weekly comes out to $7.80 per year. After four full years, my cost will be about $32, which is what the Swiffer refills totaled after just one year. Of course, I’ll have washed the reusable refill 100 times by then, and that means I’ll need to buy a $10 replacement, which brings my total to $42. If I use Swiffer sheets for the same period of time, I’d need about 624 sheets—that’s $130 total.
Is that Libman the same one sold at Target? My Target had two Libman angled brooms, but neither was labeled ‘Large’. (I know that might sound nitpicky, but with some of these products, any deviation in name means it’s not the one you tested)
I bought 3 pairs of these and installed them in my garden shed. They are rated to hold 15 pounds of dead weight and 2 of them broke under the weight of a normal garden spade/shovel which weighs less than 5 pounds. The fork weld to the screw just broke very easily. Very poor quality. Guess where they are made? China.
The $20 Scotch-Brite Angled broom has a foam insert that’s supposed to make the broom better at sweeping somehow, but it does the opposite. The insert prevents the broom from getting into corners and around oddly shaped things like door jambs, and it is terrible at sweeping up everything.
