Two further stars from this period in Broom Cupboard history were simply inanimate props – the Isetta car and the koala. Both had been sent in by viewers. The Isetta (bubble car) was a plastic toy which it seems proved very desirable to collectors, but had actually just been sent to Children’s BBC as an alternative to the dustbin. The koala too found refuge in the Broom Cupboard and was soon joined by many more sent in by viewers.
Yet this space reopens to the public in the afternoons with a spirited bit of offerings: classic cocktails, with an emphasis on a greater selection of whiskey, scotch and Port. A menu of small bites is available as well.
Eric Pickles would not make the ideal occupant of the original London broom cupboard — a 60 square-foot former janitor’s room in a block in Knightsbridge, which was sold for £36,500 in 1987 and recently valued at £200,000. But is that any reason to prevent more slender figures from seeking arelatively affordable bolthole in central London?
Even the smallest spaces can help you to get organized. If you have a narrow space beside the garage door, why not utilize that space with a metal cabinet or shelving system? The key is to use as much space as you can to get things put away. A rolling cart that will fit under a workbench is a great way to keep things handy when you need them and out of sight when you don’t. Via: BHG – Storage-Packed Space
There was a change in the afternoon line-up from Christmas 1989. Andi Peters began to present Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, reducing Andy Crane’s appearances to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This allowed Andy to accommodate his occasional presenting of Top Of The Pops (recorded at Elstree on Tuesdays), and the audience to get used to his eventual successor – for only a few weeks later Andy announced, on Going Live!, that he was leaving Children’s BBC.
After interviewing experts, surveying readers, and researching what makes a great broom, dust mop, and dustpan, we scoured retailers and manufacturer’s websites and compiled spreadsheets of 95 brooms, 50 dust mops, and 70 dustpans. We also visited physical stores to find out which brooms are widely available from different retailers.
Garage organization starts with getting large tools out of the way. You can build a great rack for rakes, shovels and other gardening tools and you only need a few pieces of wood and some nails. Just cut slots for the tools to stand in and you can get them off the floor and make them a bit more organized. Via: Familyhandyman – Garage Storage Project: Shovel Rack
The “pegs” are triangles formed into the hanger. They are very slightly tilted upward so your garden tools don’t easily slide off. They also have VERY slight nibs formed into them to serve the same purpose but the nibs are so tiny they really don’t do anything at all.
We eliminated nine of our test brooms because they were either poorly designed or just plain bad at sweeping. We had a panel of four regular, non-professional sweepers use the five finalists to sweep up flour, litter, and rice at the Wirecutter office in Manhattan’s Chinatown. I also used each of the finalists for several weeks to clean my Brooklyn apartment. I did a weekly sweep in every room—which includes hardwood flooring and a bathroom with small tiles and lots of grout—and daily spot cleanings by the litter box and scratching board because my two cats love to make messes.
Dust mops are available in a number of styles to fit different applications. Twisted-loop mops offer the highest level of dust pickup, and they’re also less likely to get snagged on objects and fixtures. Looped-end mops offer excellent coverage and hold up to repeated launderings without fraying. Some cut-end mops can be laundered and reused, but many are considered disposable and are not designed to be washed. Some commercial dust mops are made with antimicrobial agents that resist the growth of bacteria to help keep the mops sanitary between washings.
For Christmas, a morning schedule was broadcast, presented by Andi Peters and Lisa Jones, a former Butlins redcoat. These links came from the satellite set which had been used over the Summer. And a short pantomime was also produced, broadcast one afternoon. The highlight of this was Andi Peters dressed a fairy, complete with tutu!
If our main pick is unavailable or you want a broom that comes with a dustpan, we recommend the $14 Libman Large Precision Angle Broom with Dustpan. It’s not as effective at sweeping up dust as the Casabella, it’s heavier and its bristles are a bit too stiff, and it doesn’t have our pick’s comfy grip. However, among the brooms we tested the Libman was the second best at sweeping , was well-liked by our panel, and comes with an okay dustpan.
What makes our pick so good at cleaning? For starters, there’s its double-sided head. The blue side is covered in chenille nubs made from a microfiber and synthetic blend. These chenille fingers are great at getting into cracks and holding onto lots of dust. The other side has white microfiber strips and alternating blue strips, also made of blended microfiber. In our tests, we found the blue chenille side to be the most effective at picking up the majority of the dust. The white side was useful for making a thorough second pass. Our pick isn’t pure microfiber, but the synthetic yarn doesn’t negatively impact durability and the O-Cedar was better at cleaning than some of the pure microfiber cloths we tested.

Casabella’s $9 Dustpan & Brush Set is similar to the Wayclean set mentioned above, but is the absolute worst we tested. It took more than 14 sweeps to get all the cat litter into the pan, when every other pan we tested took six or fewer.
I wasn’t expecting such a good deal on these cute hanging storage cups. They are much bigger and sturdier than I thought they would be. They are a great deal for the price. They do not come with instructions but are very easy to assemble. I would definitely recommend them if you want cute storage cups to hang on your wall.
I am a 54 year old woman, and was able to put this cabinet together with very few problems. It is perfect for what I am using it for (bathroom linen cabinet) I sanded and stained the top to a darker color, and changed out the knobs. It is not a heavy cabinet, but for the money, the quality is good. We will reinforce the back before anchoring it to the wall. Overall, we are happy with this purchase.

Engineered to aggressively collect dust, the microfiber filament fibers and looped ends allow for the pick-up of very small or micro particles that ordinary mops will leave behind. Can be laundered over 200 times and NEVER require the use of dust mop treatments.
