We used fiber cement panels for siding because they resist rot and hold paint well (the panels come primed). If you substitute plywood panels, be aware that they’ll eventually rot along the bottoms where they’re in ground contact. We chose corrugated plastic panels for the roof because they let in light and are easy to install. Materials for our locker cost about $500.

To make a hearth broom, 28 heads of broomcorn are used for the inside layers of bristles and 17 heads for the outside layer. Each head is measured with a cubit (the distance between your elbow to your longest finger). Put the knuckle of the corn, the place where the head meets the stalk, at your elbow. If the bristles, or brush, are past the tip of your fingers, that stalk is a keeper. If the material is too short, it will be used for a whisk broom later.
Check the mop head each time you mop to make certain it is fastened tightly. If the mop head is not on the handle properly, metal or plastic components may scrape the floor. For this reason also, replace mop heads whenever they show signs of tearing or falling apart.
Fill the trenches with pea gravel so they’re roughly level. Then cut treated 2×6 sleepers to size and set them over the gravel so the outside edges are 4 ft. apart. Place a 4-ft. level over one of the sleepers. Level it, then adjust the second sleeper until it’s level with the first (Photo 1).
Infusion of Broom (Infusum Scoparii) is made by infusing the dried tops with boiling water for fifteen minutes and then straining. It was introduced in the British Pharmacopoeia of 1898, in place of the decoction of Broom of the preceding issues.

Rinse the sponge mop head well under warm water when you are finished mopping. Mop the clean sponge over the floor to rinse the cleaner residue from the floor, if necessary (some products don’t need to be rinsed off).
Perhaps the biggest change in the broom world over the last century is the rise of the synthetic lookalike. Following the development of the first synthetic fibers in the 1940s, companies like DuPont started creating filaments and extruded plastic products just in time for the consumer boom of the 1950s and 60s. These technologies were quickly adapted for brooms—especially the school janitor-size, “push” broom varieties—and these styles continue to sell alongside the old natural models today. Many homeowners keep one of each on hand, using the softer, plastic bristles on sensitive hardwoods and the hardier broomcorn for heavier jobs.
Lobby Broom/Dust Pan Combo Sets are designed to help keep public areas neat and clean. Brooms with durable polypropylene bristles are able to maintain their appearance, even after repeated use. Choose from metal and plastic construction.
You can also use sponge mops dry to remove dust or cobwebs from walls, ceilings and other hard-to-reach areas. Hang the mop on a hook to drip dry in a well-ventilated area when you are finished. This helps prevent a musty odor from developing on the mop. You can usually reuse the mop head several times and change it when it is either too soiled to clean well or has started tearing. Vinegar and water make an easy cleaner for tile floors, both vinyl and porcelain tiles. Use one cup of white distilled vinegar to one gallon of water–your floors will sparkle. If floors are greasy, add liquid dish washing detergent to plain warm water (one tbsp. of detergent per gallon of water) for a grease-cutting floor cleaner.

A wall mounted bike hanger supports the wheel rim and places the bike in the same relative position. The wheels will always come in contact with the wall when this mount is used. The wall mount can reduce the lifting required to hang the bike, if placed relatively low on the wall.
