Hi Marji. I just read about this over @ Lorie’s Be Different Act Normal. This is such a great idea and it’s really great that you took the time to make a tutorial for us. I’m now a new follower and look forward to seeing more. I’ve got to pin this now.
I bought this mop to see if it was a decent replacement for my Shark Pocket Mop, no it is not. It is very light and feels breakable, you want to push it to give it scrubbing power on the floor. It does not produce continuous steam and you have to push down and forward to get steam at all. Maybe use it in a small room. I will be buying the replacement parts for the pocket mop I have worn out from use.
I knew a variation would work in our tool shed. I had some PVC left over from a sculpture project posted here. (Side note- following that link is worth it if you don’t know about our sculpture week. Risk it and take a look!) Instead of the suggested format, I cut the PVC scraps at an angle (approx. 30º) into 6 pieces and mounted them at the mid point and bottom of my shed wall. Here are the cut pieces. I saved the short end pieces and I was glad I did.
During summertime, the to-do list for your garden seems endless! Once one task is crossed off the list more weeds grow, more roses need dead-heading and more veggies need harvesting! Creating an organized and inspiring workspace and tool storage make these days easier and more productive.
Steam control – Some types of flooring may not be able to handle the high heat settings necessary for sanitization or deep cleaning. Whether a digital or dial control, being able to customize your settings means you can adjust the steam to accommodate the type of surface you are cleaning.
Take this idea for a spin: Use a bike basket to corral tools in the garden shed. It’s sturdy, charming, and just the right size to hold gloves, twine, and other essentials. An old basket that’s missing its straps is perfect for the job, but you could also use a new one. Hang the basket by its handlebar-strap holes on pegs in the wall.
Rubbermaid, as well as a few other companies, make systems that you can hang on the wall to organize tools, garden supplies and other items in the garage. You just mount the system and use hooks to hang things up. This is a great way to make more floor space in the garage and keep it well-organized at the same time. Via: Flickr
Our local AHJ requires 5/8 FireX on the ceiling and the common wall (even though my wall has 8 of concrete in it). The aforementioned self-closing door with a 20 minute rating is also required. I went ahead and did FireX on all four walls, as the outer walls are studs, and it wasn’t that much more money. I always thought the door was more about CO than smoke. I shouldn’t have used the term ‘fire rated’.
The ShippingPass assortment is continually being optimized. Products are added and removed for lots of reasons, but the main reason is to show items that we’re 100% sure we can deliver within the promised timeline.
For a budget-priced buy, the Shark Steam Pocket Mop is our pick for the best deal. Priced as low as $52 at publication, this mop comes with many of the key features we looked for in a mop. It heats up in less than a minute (30 seconds, to be exact) and our test floors were dry in around two minutes.
I still had all the small tools to deal with and decided to make use of some of the space between the studs on the exterior wall. I cut a scrap of wood to serve as a face plate and, to the back, I attached some of the smaller PVC rings left from cutting. We had always used this space for the hand tools but they slid down and got lost in the darkness. My goal was to create a grid that would hold them in place. Here are the rings attached to the back side of the board. The spaces are where the studs will be.
It’s best to have a designated space for your gardening tools and supplies, so they don’t get lost in the clutter of everything else you have in the garage. I have several shelves that are only used to store my gardening stuff.
While steam is flowing, we felt a slight, intermittent vibration in the handle of the PowerFresh. It was helpful in some way to know when the mop had steam (since it lacks a warm-up/cool-down light), but it could be annoying to some with longer cleaning jobs.
So if we examine the above diagram, starting on the top left side and reading right, we can see that if we cover the first six (6) stud spaces with a 8′ long 2 x 4 we will fall short of meeting the center of the seventh stud by 3/4. So we will cut the 9′ – 2 x 4s to a length of 8′ 0-3/4 for both the sole and top plates. Next we can place a full 8′ – 2 x 4 length next to this without any cutting to length and it will fall under the center of the thirteenth stud in the wall. Finally, we can cut the the next plate length from a 8′ long 2 x 4 to the measurement of 7′ 10-1/4. We need a total plate length of 23′ 11, so lets add up our proposed lengths before we cut to make sure we have it right:
Garage Tips: It is a good idea to snap-a-line on the foundation with a chalk-string as to where the outer face of the garage wall framing will sit. In the illustration we are using for a 12′ x 24′ garage, we are holding the walls back 1/2 from the foundations outer edge so that when we place the 1/2 structural sheathing on the walls it will be flush with the face of the foundation allowing the siding to sit down over the foundation face tightly. Keep this in mind when you drill your holes in the sole plates for the anchor-bolts.
Just adding a little style to your garage doors will instantly transform them. You can actually give those doors the carriage house door look without spending hundreds on actual carriage house doors. Many home improvement stores sell kits that allow you to instantly transform your doors and the kits are relatively inexpensive and really easy to install. Via: Garrdenoflove – Garage Door Makeover
Since tools are so essential for gardening, it’s important to store them in a way that allows you to pick them up easily whenever you need them. Nothing feels more frustrating than having to search for a tool while your garden is waiting.
A. Most steam mops use reusable pads. However, you must clean them regularly. Most can be machine-washed on the delicate cycle with a mild detergent, but consult your owner’s manual for the proper washing procedure.
The good news is that none of our finalists were noisy enough to wake up a sleeping toddler. The Shark Steam Pocket Mop and Steamfast SF-370WH Multi-Purpose Steam Cleaner made no noise at all except for the sound of steam being released, and the remaining mops were equally silent once they heated up (after the first fill or refill, they make an initial “knocking” sound). If you wanted to use the vacuum function of the Bissell Symphony Pet All-in-One Vacuum and Steam Mop, we might recommend waiting until after nap time.

The Bissell Vac & Steam is about as advanced as steam mops get. As the name suggests, this is actually a steam mop and vacuum cleaner in one. It probably won’t replace a vacuum cleaner for most people, but it does mean you don’t have to get the main vac out before cleaning the floors.

The gripping mechanism work very well and easily. It is holding up a full sized shovel in my garage right now. Doesn’t slip and it is really easy to insert a broom or such. The flip down hooks are meh. They seem strong enough, I use one to hold a bungee cord I user to hold a door open, otherwise, kind of useless for me, but it is not a detraction. Plastic is fairly heavy duty. I attached it with sheetrock screws, but it comes with it’s own anchors and screws. Build quality is really nice. Cons: can’t really think of any.

I found the StoreWALL very easy to place where I wanted it. It was a very simple process, I had my daughter hold it in place while I placed it on the wall. It only took me about 5 to 10 minutes to have it right where I wanted it. Men and women will love the way the StoreWALL looks and how easy it is to put together. I have found myself thinking about all the places that I want to place the StoreWALL.
We installed pegboard over the sheetrock treatment. Its ok. It certainly has had an easily convertible nature over the last 20 years. Its an active shop area, has a sports car in residence and lots of garden and yard tools etc. If I have a complaint it would be that I should not have trimmed in the bottoms because its easier to blow out bugs with an air hose and tip fitting when you plan ahead but I did not think of it and had to redo the bottoms. Or I could have used channel board but that stuff is heavy.

Staining a concrete floor is not difficult and does not have to be expensive. It can however, help you to add just a little color that will make your garage seem much more organized and neat. You just have to choose your color, move everything out and get to work. Remember to clean the floor well before you begin. Via: Younghouselove – How To Stain A Concrete Floor

The relatively small tank on the PowerFresh will need to be filled once or twice if you have more than two rooms (about 10 square feet each) to clean. The PowerFresh’s two cleaning pads (one regular, one “strong”; replacement PowerFresh pads are available) are not very easy to get on or off the mop. Lifting a little tab above the mop head is cumbersome, and the can take several minutes while the mop is hot. Consider our upgrade pick for bigger jobs or easier pad replacement.
Your garage doesn’t necessarily have to look like a garage. You can paint and add a bit of color if you want to help brighten up that space. If you have steps going into your home for instance, you can paint them a bright color and add a little message to anyone who steps over them. This is a great way to brighten up an otherwise dull and boring space. Via: Landeeseelandeedo – Garage Steps Can Be Pretty Too
