It’s great to read about the different kinds of dust mops, I didn’t even realize there are several types but knowing which is which will help you find the dust mop that will best fit your cleaning needs.

Gordon The Gopher came to the Broom Cupboard at Christmas 1986, courtesy of Phillip’s Auntie Diane. The squeaky puppet soon became a firm favourite with viewers, and the bane of executives at BBC Enterprises, as Phillip shrewdly retained the merchandising rights.

Brooms are easy to maintain properly, but most people don’t know the basic rules for doing so. Rule one: Don’t store your broom with its weight on the bristles. Hang it up using the storage loop, or prop it against a wall with the handle facing down. Leaving a broom sitting on its bristles causes them to bend, weaken, and even break, which shortens your trusty broom’s lifespan.

A very popular series running on Children’s BBC at this time was BRB Internacional’s 26-episode Around The World With Willy Fog. BRB, based in Madrid, had produced the hugely successful Dogtanian series which the BBC had acquired and shown several times previously on Children’s BBC. Willy Fog was based on the novel by Jules Verne and portrayed all the characters as animals. The theme tune was rather catchy and was sung by Andy on more than one occasion, who even trotted out the Spanish version one afternoon. Accompanied by postally distributed songsheets, the interest peaked with the mounting of National Willy Fog Day, on which Andy again sang the opening title music, only this time he did so from one of the Presentation studios, keyed afront of the titles and dressed up in turn as all of the characters.

It picks up the dog and cat hair easily and stays in the duster until you shake it outside. Don’t shake too vigorously or the head will fall off. I like the product but it could have a sturdier base. Would buy again and recommend.

I really like this mop, and I would recommend it to a friend. I put it to use shortly after it arrived. Not only does it dust hard floors and baseboards beautifully, but I used it to dust my kitchen cabinet exteriors. It gets into crevices very well. It worked great on dusting walls as part of Fall cleaning. Cleaned the decorative molding at the top of the walls perfectly. Picks up dust, lint, hair, etc and really holds on. The black flexible dusthead holder makes dusting so easy! Only issues I had were that the handle kept starting to unscrew from the flexible black dusthead holder so I kept having to make a point of tightening it. Then I went outside to give it a good shaking — and all at once the dusthead flew off the flexible holder and the mop handle unscrewed from the same holder and both pieces went flying. Rather surprised me! So, I suggest removing the dusthead from the flexible holder and shaking out the dusthead by itself not attached to anything instead of while it’s attached to the mop or the flexible black holder, especially if you plan to shake it out from an upstairs window. Since I also purchased a second dusthead, I washed the one I was using after shaking it out. It washed beautifully; I washed it in cold water, gentle cycle and mild liquid detergent and have it hanging to dry. So even with the issues of the mop handle unscrewing and having to remove the dusthead from the flexible black holder to shake it out, I’m giving it 5 stars because it is so useful.

A pair of thoughtfully set bookcases and a connecting desktop fashion a dressing room along a blank wall. The out-facing bookcase houses a mirror, cleaning supplies, a laundry hamper, and extra toiletries. On the other side of the vanity station, a bookcase holds beauty-making potions and things used every day; pretty bins act as hidey-holes for less pleasing provisions, such as toilet paper, cotton balls, and facial tissue boxes.

Lots of people like the $7 OXO Good Grips Compact Dustpan and Brush Set, but it’s way too small to use as your primary dustpan. It also doesn’t have any kind of handle or grip, and the brush is really hard to remove from the dustpan once it’s locked in.

I did as another reviewer recommended and mounted this hanger to a 1 X 10 X 6 foot board. This worked well for my garage space. It is strong and looks very neat mounted on the wall. The length of the hanger supports from the wall, allows for more than one tool in each hanger. This has worked well for my garage application. Would recommend it to others

Locate studs using a stud finder and mark them with masking tape, then draw a level line 3 ft. above the garage floor. Start at the center of the wall with a 4-ft. level and work to each side. Garage floors often slope, so don’t simply measure from the floor to establish the line. Set the first strip above the level line, screwing it to every stud with two 2-1/2-in. screws (Photo 1). Space the remaining strips so they line up with the screw holes on the standards you use—ours were 22 in. from center to center.

Some dustpans are staticky, and this static can make particles jump straight out of your dustpan back onto the floor. Super frustrating! Our advice is to keep using your dustpan—the static will lessen over time the more you use it. We tried wiping down some of the most staticky dustpans we tested with a dryer sheet, but it didn’t make a significant difference.

Andy and Edd were joined in December 1988 by another long-running character. Wilson the Butler. As had become traditional for supporting human characters, Wilson’s face was never seen (though we did see the back of his head during a spectacular fall during an outside broadcast from Peterborough in 1991.) Wilson was a butler at Buckingham Palace who arrived with The Queen (aka impressionist Jeanette Charles) to switch on the Broom Cupboard Christmas lights! Edd offered him a job, and he stayed until 1992. Edd and Wilson each disliked the other – Edd called Wilson stinky, while Wilson thought Edd was stupid and often demonstrated his desire to get the duck off! Wilson could often be seen slapping Edd about the head, and attempted to do away with him many times!

Have you considered evaluating the Casabella neon broom? It appears to be very similar but the handle is slightly different – would be curious to hear your take, since it’s much easier and cheaper to come by.

In our survey, we found that most people want a handheld dustpan, not a stand-up dustpan. Sixty percent preferred to use a broom to sweep debris directly into the dustpan—no brush needed. Among those who did want a brush, most like a long, flat brush instead of a whisk brush. Cleaning expert Leslie Reichert agrees, and told us she’d “never had much luck with a whisk brush teamed with a dustpan” and prefers “a very soft, thick brush.” Good brush bristles have a lot in common with brooms: They should be synthetic, flagged, and soft enough to grab dust but not floppy enough to fling it around.

I bought this to hide away some taller items in my studio apartment, which doesn’t have a closet. I was a little skeptical of the price because this is particle board, but the quality seems to be there. The boards themselves are 5/8 thick and the hardware is sturdy–nearly all metal with some beefy wood dowel pins to help out. Everything came well-packed in foam with no damage. Assembly took about an hour and the instructions are very easy to follow.

If you have loads of smaller tools and drill bits and you don’t really have room for an extra-large toolbox, you can just add a small magnetic strip to the wall or just wherever you have room. This strip will keep those drill bits perfectly organized and handy so that you can just grab one when you need it. If you have a tool bench, this is the perfect way to keep drill bits close at hand and out of the way. Via: BHG – Every Little Bit

Ok, so you’re bound to have duct tape in your garage. If you have several rolls of differently colored tapes or different types of tape, you can easily create a dispenser that mounts to the wall and keeps your tapes perfectly organized. A few boards and a hacksaw blade are all you need to create a great dispenser that not only keeps your tape organized, it cuts it the perfect length every time.
