Leaf rakes are handy for raking leaves and for general cleaning-up of garden debris. Some are available with adjustable metal tines, which make clean up a breeze in-between plants and in narrow spaces. Look for an ergonomic handle and comfortable grip to reduce the stress on your back and hands.

Thanks Emily, They were a challenge due to lack of light and not enough space for a tripod. Some are better than others but I shot a whole bunch of duds as well. Thank goodness for digital photography!

The IRC may not be the applicable code in your jurisdiction or it may have been amended so check with the local building official. For instance, in my state, if the dwelling is not sprinklered, the gypsum board on the garage side of the shared wall has been amended to be Type-X like in Mushcreek’s jurisdiction.

I don’t feel this item was worth the price of shipping, let alone the sales price. Flimsy and, in my opinion, not to be trusted for holding yard tools securely. It’s a chore finding just the right position and angle where things stay put. The plastic pegs spread and are quite slippery on metal.Too much cost involved in sending it back so I’ll use it for hand tools, about what it’s suited for. Also, it’s a couple of bucks cheaper on the makers web site.

These panels, made from medium density fiberboard (MDF), have overlapping layers and look a little like vinyl exterior siding. They could be attached to drywall, stonework or wood studs, and also the slats give sufficient possibility for attaching hooks and also shelves.

While drywall serves as the most common wall finish throughout most modern homes, it’s not always the best choice for the garage. In addition to being difficult to finish properly, drywall simply isn’t as useful as other wall finishes when it comes to maximizing the functionality and organization in the garage. Before hanging drywall, consider alternative materials that add a practical or decorative touch in garages and workshops.

For many, cleaning and organizing the garage is mundane task that is so dreaded it simply never gets done. We have found a collection of different ways that you can easily and quickly get that garage in good order. Not only are these methods easy and effective, many of them will cost you nothing but a little time.

For heavier-duty cleaning or bigger homes where you might need longer-lasting steam, we recommend the Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop System S5003D (Est. $100). It’s almost identical to our Best Reviewed spray mop/steam mop combo, the Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop System S6002 (Est. $130), which we cover in our discussion of the Best Steam Vacuums elsewhere in this report. However, it does not convert to a spray mop as the S6002 does, and the S5003D has three steam settings as opposed to the S6002’s one setting.

The Bissell 19404 PowerFresh Steam Mop Hard Floor Steam Cleaner outperformed the competition in several of the key metrics we used to determine the best steam mop. It heats up in less than a minute, can be used for 20 minutes at a time, and the floor dries in less time than it takes to put the unit away. Most importantly, the built-in easy scrubber and scrubby microfiber pad work with the steam to remove soil and grime in a matter of seconds. The icing on the cake is its removable tank, which makes filling and emptying the tank with water a breeze.

Adding simple pegs to the wall or to boards to hang on the wall is a great way to get the garage organized. You can add different levels so that you have room to hang longer items and then keep shorter or smaller items closer to the floor. This keeps everything off the floor and makes it look much neater and tidier and, pegs are relatively inexpensive so you can hang as many as you need. Via: Marthastewart – Peg-Rail Organizer

Table 5-B REQUIRED SEPARATiONS IN BUILDINGS OF MIXED OCCUPANCY (in hours) shows Group I (Dwellings) and Group J (Private Garages) as being required to be separated by a 1 – hour fire-rated partition and 1-hour fire-rated door.

Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy (like pillows), but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ‘em) products and single out the most convincing. While we’ve written about our favorite vacuums here before, twice actually, we decided to expand our cleaning-supply coverage to include bacteria-killing mops. Here, the best steam mops on Amazon. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)

Atlanta, GA-based professional organizer Diane N. Quintana, author of Now What? A Simple Organizing Guide, is also an avid gardener with lots of tools to store. Here are her best tips to keep your tools in tip-top shape, year after year.

The scrub brush and nylon utility brushes did an amazing job on our floors and walls, removing years of grime that couldn’t be touched by other cleaning products. The nylon utility brush also refreshed our low-pile carpet, removing stains and unflattening the fibers. On the area rug, it removed stains, but did pull on the fibers, so we would have preferred a more gentle tool there.

A few nails in stud walls make handy hangers to hold tools like shovels, rakes and hoes. Take a pen and draw an outline of each tool on the wall behind it. The outline not only helps show where the tools belong, but the sight of an empty space lets you know what’s missing. If you go a step further and spray paint the handles of your tools a bright florescent orange, you’ll have no trouble finding them in the garden.
