Whirlpool Corporation is a global manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances. Major brand names used in the United States include Whirlpool®, Maytag®, KitchenAid®, Jenn-Air®, Amana®, Gladiator®, Roper®, Estate®, EveryDrop®, Swash®, Affresh®.
The picture is accurate. You can easily hold 5 items that have a long handle (thing a mop or broom) if you do what the picture says (some items have the handle pointing up, others need to go the opposite direction). The unit itself is made of plastic and is not particularly heavy. However, it comes with 6 mounting screws as well as the drywall plastic thing (meaning you don’t have to mount it into a stud). For mine, four of my screws were used with the drywall thing while I coincidentally hit a stud for the other two (the screws go in pairs one over top of the other). It took me 10 minutes to install. I drilled pilot holes so as not to mess up my drywall. This product is as advertised.
Beyond the easy-change mop head, the Genius Pocket Mop has a single level of steam operation, which is fine and gets the job done. The mop’s blue light blinks when warming up and cooling down, which is convenient. If you flip the mop head backward (underneath the body instead of in front of it), the mop’s steam shoots out directly onto the floor (as a so-called Steam Blaster), which might help with truly sticky stains. The Genius Pocket Mop was not quite as agile as the PowerFresh in bending sideways or dipping low beneath objects, but it was more flexible than all the other mops we tested.
The Symphony comes with the everyday use microfiber pad and scrubby pad (along with an optional scent disc, just like the 19404 PowerFresh), as well as steamboost disposable pads. We all know that sometimes pets make messes that are better suited for the trash than the laundry, and the disposable pads are a handy option in those cases.
We used 3-1/2-in.-wide strips of 3/4-in. plywood for the strips because plywood is always straight and never splits—but pine 1x4s also work. Birch plywood was our choice for the strips and shelves, but you can also use less expensive BC plywood. You can rip 12 strips from one 4 x 8-ft. sheet—that’s enough for an average wall. We used four sheets of plywood for our system. For shelf edging, we used 1-1/2-in.-wide strips of solid birch (Photo 6). The total cost for our 20-ft.-long system was about $500, but you could cut that cost in half by skipping the fold-down workbench (Photo 5) and using less-expensive wood and plywood.
In testing at all three of the sites mentioned above, the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop 1940 performed well in cleaning a variety of messes, including ground-in dirt and dried food spills. It also had the ability to produce just the right amount of steam to get floors clean, without leaving them overly wet. YourBestDigs.com notes that it took only about two minutes for the floors to dry after using the 1940, or, as they note, about the time it takes to put the unit away and walk back across your floor without leaving a trail of footprints.
Each ball is capable of holding a maximum of 7-12 pounds weight meaning you can organize even heavy items without worrying of overburdening your holder. It mounts very easily with the included 6 screws with wall anchors. The drawback is that the holder can only grip handles that at 1″ thick or less. However, most handles have thicknesses within that range.
For a budget-priced buy, the Shark Steam Pocket Mop is our pick for the best deal. Priced as low as $52 at publication, this mop comes with many of the key features we looked for in a mop. It heats up in less than a minute (30 seconds, to be exact) and our test floors were dry in around two minutes.
The Karcher SC1 Steam Stick is a lightweight, versatile steam cleaner that can be used as a steam mop or simply as a handheld cleaner. It comes with a hand tool, small plastic brush, power nozzle and detail nozzle, as well as two 45cm-long tubes and a 110cm hose. For flats and small houses with minimal storage space, it doesn’t get more compact and practical than this.

The solution is to create a framework of horizontal wood strips and inexpensive shelf standards. It can hold almost any arrangement of shelving and hooks, at any point on the wall, and it’s easy to rearrange.
As you place each garage wall framing structure into position, you want to first make sure it is in a straight-line before you secure your bracing. You do this with a string line run along the top plate out from the edge of the plate about 1/2. Simply nail a 1 x 1 x 4 piece of pine to each end stud and run the string to each end. Then move the wall in and out with the interior braces until the wall matches the string line from one end to the other. Once you have it near perfect, nail the braces to the stakes in the earth. You can do this same procedure at the bottom plate with the string and a sledge-hammer to tap the wall in and out before tightening your nuts on the anchor-bolts.
“I’m very happy with this steam mop. It’s very basic, but gets the job done. Make sure to order a few extra washable pads: The mop only comes with one, and I usually use two or three a week. My primary concern when I ordered the Shark Light & Easy Steam Mop, was that it would be flimsy. The stem is rather flexible, and I occasionally worry that it’s going to snap, nevertheless, I am pretty aggressive when I mop, and nothing has happened thus far.”
Don’t throw away any screw-top jars you use in the kitchen. Once you’ve collected a few jars, glue or screw their lids to the underside of an existing shelf in your shed using a strong adhesive. You can then fill the jars with your gardening essentials and screw them onto the lids. Plastic jars are ideal because they won’t shatter if accidentally dropped.

Small triangular heads are an ideal option if you have nooks and crannies you need to clean, such as around a toilet. Keep in mind that it will take longer to clean a large area with a mop that has a smaller head.
At a high enough temperature, steam vapor can kill bacteria, dust mites and mold spores. While kitchen and bathroom floors may not be one of the top germ hot spots in your home (according to the National Sanitation Foundation’s 2011 germ study, your dish sponge and toothbrush holder are likelier culprits), floors can still harbor bacteria such as Salmonella and E. coli in lesser quantities, by contact with shoes or spills.

Garage Tips: It is a good idea to snap-a-line on the foundation with a chalk-string as to where the outer face of the garage wall framing will sit. In the illustration we are using for a 12′ x 24′ garage, we are holding the walls back 1/2 from the foundations outer edge so that when we place the 1/2 structural sheathing on the walls it will be flush with the face of the foundation allowing the siding to sit down over the foundation face tightly. Keep this in mind when you drill your holes in the sole plates for the anchor-bolts.
The O-Cedar Microfiber Steam Mop is not just designed for smaller cleaning tasks and spot cleaning. It is an affordable alternative to high-end steam mops with little sacrifice in performance. The O-Cedar Microfiber Steam Mop produces usable steam in as little as 20 seconds, and the tank holds enough water to handle two medium-sized rooms without a refill. The microfiber pad is smooth enough to glide over sealed hardwood, tile, or linoleum flooring, but it is still aggressive enough to remove heavy dirt and grime.
The relatively small tank on the PowerFresh will need to be filled once or twice if you have more than two rooms (about 10 square feet each) to clean. The PowerFresh’s two cleaning pads (one regular, one “strong”; replacement PowerFresh pads are available) are not very easy to get on or off the mop. Lifting a little tab above the mop head is cumbersome, and the process can take several minutes while the mop is hot. Consider our upgrade pick for bigger jobs or easier pad replacement.

Once you have walls 1 and 2 up, aligned, and braced, you can erect wall 3 and secure it to walls 1 and 2 in accordance with the diagram shown on the left. You do this before adding any bracing, which will only be required at the middle of wall 3 for aligning with the use of the string as described above. Use the same procedure described above for aligning the sole plate and then move on to wall 4. When erecting wall 4 use all the same procedures and run a brace to each side of the rough opening for the overhead door.
We were impressed with the wide variety of surfaces the Steamfast SF-370WH Multi-Purpose Steam Cleaner was able to clean, from floors and baseboards to oven racks. In fact, we were so excited that we made a whole day of it, steam cleaning our fridge, oven, and walls. Thanks to the extension wands, we were even able to reach the ceiling.
The instructions we saw suggest cleaning the pad in a washing machine, but we wouldn’t want to toss a grungy pad in the same load with the bed linens and kids’ school clothes. Running an entire washing-machine cycle just for one or two pads is wasteful. And hand washing the pads in a sink isn’t all that appealing, either.
Once the panels are secure, Gladiator wall accessories and GearBoxes (each sold separately) easily fit into the panels’ channels with no drilling required. The panels’ patented Double Channel design securely holds the gear-filled components in place until you’re ready to move them. When reorganizing, the components can be easily repositioned left or right.
Our own testing confirmed that these products have the potential to damage floors. Every single steam mop we tested, on all settings, left behind a good amount of water on the floor. Flooring maker Armstrong plainly prohibits against using water (let alone steam) to clean any hardwood flooring, as does TrafficMaster, Anderson, Bellawood, Heritage Mill, and many others. The steam itself combines moisture and heat, which can break down the adhesive holding engineered pieces together, causing floors to swell and buckle. The heat can discolor and damage even seemingly impervious materials, like vinyl—testing two steam mops for a few minutes on the stick-on vinyl floor in my laundry room caused cloudlike white spots to form.
I ordered two packs and both arrived with damaged corners and one panel had broken in two. Luckily, I think the damaged corners will be hidden with trim and the bits broken off are on the back side of the panel so am going to use them rather than try to return them. The problem is that the 8ft by 1ft panels are cumbersome to handle so the delivery person has a hard time unloading them and delivering them. I imagine they are handled badly throughout the process, being long and heavy as both packages arrived scuffed and scarred.
Consider a cupboard WHAT YOU’LL NEED: Shifting spanner, screwdriver, allen keys (to put the cupboard together) HOW TO: Adding a cupboard with lockable doors creates storage space that will keep dangerous items safe. Use it to store chemicals, pesticides, paint thinners and the like. Smaller cupboards can be wall-mounted while larger units simply sit on the floor. AVERAGE TIME: 1 hour.
Organization experts stress the importance of getting items up off the floor. When it comes to lawn and garden equipment, I am a huge fan of using vertical space whenever possible, says Lisa Mark, certified professional organizer at The Time Butler in Los Altos, California. These systems convert otherwise unusable wall space into great storage space. Think of your garage walls as a blank canvas for arranging useful art: rakes and shovels, sprinklers, pruners, weed whackers, and more.
